808 Grandaddies – A haphazardly curated collection of Hip Hop SoundSystem tracks

One of the beautiful features of Hip Hop music is you can easily attribute the production, towards particular communal environments. House parties, Clubs, Jeeps, Block Parties, challenge producers to provide sounds, emphasis, and levels that make the best use of atmosphere, physics and social objective. So, I wanted to show some tunes that I think are particularly designed for the Block Party. In this way we can easily see the connection Hip Hop had to its predecessor of Reggae, and to soundsystem culture, in the development of tracks for loud areas. Specifically, bass sounds forced listeners to come to your end of the yard, distorted snares provided clacks and noise that complemented the city buses, cars, and construction hanging around alongside of you, and the slight echo in some of the MCs voices provides the effect of space and reverb. This is music that is responsive to the city planning, gentrification, lack of nature, and urbanization happening all around you.

This one is for the little kids…
